Heroin Addiction A Disease?

Recently the AMA has been entertaining the idea that heroin addiction is a disease. I am not sure if I am even surprised, given the medical precedence of labeling alcoholism as a disease.
What do you think
should heroin addiction be considered a disease, just like alcoholism?

I have a boyfriend who was a heroin addict never had rehab but he was on this addiction for about a year he got locked up went to jail for about 2 weeks i see the difference in him before he was starting to look like a bumb and now hes clean smells good and dresses way better than before not bummy looking is it possible for him to fall back to his addiction even after going trhough the withdrawals while he was in jail?

my girlfriend has been using heroin intravenously for about 7 months and has stopped having her period for about the last 3 to 4 months almost. She has even taken a pregnancy test that came up negative which makes me wonder if it has anything to do with the heroin. Any info helps, thank you.

i’m close to someone who’s been in & out of rehab for the past 16 years. clean for 8 after the 1st time, then used heroin. since then he’s had 6 months or so clean at a time & then relapses. 6 months ago he went into a long term treatment program & was released after 4. but he’s still lying & hiding. he cheated on the girl who stood by him almost right after he left the treatment center & she’s devastated. moved out of the original sober house he went to & into another one but hasn’t been back there since he moved in. the girl he cheated with didn’t know he was in a relationship. he’s not living with her so not sure where he stays. he’s already creating another web of lies. however, he goes to meetings every day & speaks at them frequently. works all the time. sounds like he’s doing okay, but is it just a cover up? lies cause guilt, shame which is what he needs to avoid. are these signs he may relapse soon? is this typical (lying, infidelity, etc ..) in early recovery?

I’m addicted to heroin. The first time I tried using heroin was the night I discovered my boyfriend cheating on me. I was heartbroken and devastated. One of my classmates, Mike, offered me heroin. He said that it’s the best remedy for a heartbreak. I tried it and I didn’t like it at first but I found myself wanting to have it in my system again. I became addicted to it and I love the euphoric feeling that it provides. Just recently, I realized how my addiction to heroin affects my family. I’ve never seen my mother so downhearted and miserable. I want to change. I want to give up my addiction but I can’t do it alone.

Sebutex has opioids rather than actual opiates in it like methadone does. You can’t get off on sebutex, however, you can get high on methadone. Sebutex turns itself off if you take too much. So why don’t they just use that?
