That is my main question but I also want to know what the addict will experience during this time, symptoms, side effect etc and is it possible for someone to die if they go “cold turkey” with no substitute drugs?

i’m close to someone who’s been in & out of rehab for the past 16 years. clean for 8 after the 1st time, then used heroin. since then he’s had 6 months or so clean at a time & then relapses. 6 months ago he went into a long term treatment program & was released after 4. but he’s still lying & hiding. he cheated on the girl who stood by him almost right after he left the treatment center & she’s devastated. moved out of the original sober house he went to & into another one but hasn’t been back there since he moved in. the girl he cheated with didn’t know he was in a relationship. he’s not living with her so not sure where he stays. he’s already creating another web of lies. however, he goes to meetings every day & speaks at them frequently. works all the time. sounds like he’s doing okay, but is it just a cover up? lies cause guilt, shame which is what he needs to avoid. are these signs he may relapse soon? is this typical (lying, infidelity, etc ..) in early recovery?

I’m addicted to heroin. The first time I tried using heroin was the night I discovered my boyfriend cheating on me. I was heartbroken and devastated. One of my classmates, Mike, offered me heroin. He said that it’s the best remedy for a heartbreak. I tried it and I didn’t like it at first but I found myself wanting to have it in my system again. I became addicted to it and I love the euphoric feeling that it provides. Just recently, I realized how my addiction to heroin affects my family. I’ve never seen my mother so downhearted and miserable. I want to change. I want to give up my addiction but I can’t do it alone.

She has been clean for a month now after detoxing at a hospital. She is attending IOP classes 4 times a week and started her 12 step program with a sponser she has had for about 2 weeks. Is there anything else she can be doing to get better and prevent drug use?

Sebutex has opioids rather than actual opiates in it like methadone does. You can’t get off on sebutex, however, you can get high on methadone. Sebutex turns itself off if you take too much. So why don’t they just use that?

I don’t know much about this drug. But I do know that my husbands nephew has been on it and doing it everyday for nearly 4 months. He is currently detoxing. But he says coming off is easy, it’s staying stopped that’s hard.
Anyone have any advice?

I have a son who is in a methadone program. He cannot travel and spend time away from home because he has to go to the clinic every day to pick up his methadone. How do I go about finding a physician in my area who will prescribe methadone for him so that he can travel or even come home to live ( the nearest clinic to my home is an hours drive away )

I have heard of stories of a lot of grown-ups and middle-aged men getting addicted to heroin. I wonder if this is because they are old already. Does age really matter when it comes to getting addicted to drugs and alcohol?

I’ve always thought that it was just therapy, counseling, and rehabilitation that’s used to treat addictions. But recently I found out that others are given medication as well. I was just wondering what these drugs are.

I keep on hearing from my mom that engaging in drugs would only make me dumber and give me HIV?AIDS. She knows I’ve been hanging out with some people who do drugs. I haven’t tried it, but I’m just curious. I get the dumbing down part, the HIV part, I don’t get. What does that have to do with heroin or other drugs?

Would it be realistic, if a character in a movie was given large (although not large enough to kill) doses of heroin over a few days, or up to a week, would that cause a heroin addiction? Or does heroin addictions, like we see in movies, take longer to build?

Those diseases are sexually transmitted, right? Then how come that treating heroin addicts are able to lower the number of people who are afflicted with such diseases?

I don’t get why people take in drugs. I don’t understand why they would want to ingest/inject something into their bodies that could harm them. I’ve heard that there are a lot of cases of heroin addiction in America, and I just don’t understand why. Can anyone please enlighten me?

I was just wondering about this since I remembered an article that I read in a magazine about how a fairly large percentage of Americans are getting rehabilitated for heroin use every year. I always seem to hear about someone who has just gone out of rehab, or is going to be rehabilitated. I was planning on writing an article on this for our school paper, maybe it would help enlighten other students and stop them from using heroin. Your ideas and input will be very much appreciated.

The withdrawals from methadone addiction take 3 times longer than for heroin (3 weeks against 5 days), and are more painful. I suspect that methadone is preferred simply because it does not give such an intense high as heroin. The medical profession seem to think that getting their patients hooked on a much worse drug is acceptable just as long as no one actually gets high.
Perhaps their interests are more puritanical than medical.

I have a teenage son and I just saw bruises on his arm last night. I think they’re pricks of needles and I was just wondering if this might be because he’s taking heroin? I’m so scared. Can anyone give me tips on how to tell if a teen is a heroin addict? I would really appreciate it.

In terms of which is more difficult to overcome.
I’m only interested in answers from people who have experimented with both drugs.
I have done heroin and I’m curious to know which drug is more hell, subjectively speaking. Just about everything I read online is anti-drug propaganda, which doesn’t really answer my question.

My dad died a few weeks ago because of cancer. Ever since then, my mom has gotten into a slump that she can’t seem to get out of. She was pregnant when my dad died, but she lost the baby in a miscarriage because of taking heroin. I’ve been talking to her, and she feels so guilty for losing the baby. She’s ready to build a new life for herself now, and I want to be there for her every step of the way. Please tell me how I can help my mom.

I would, a drug addiction other than public feelings towards you affects you only. A gambling addiction on the other hand, although does not affect you physically, affects you and your family financially.

I know methadone is commonly used, but I’ve heard that it can be addictive as well. I suppose it could be true, as heroin was first believed to be a medication for morphine addiction. So, are there other treatments for heroin addiction?

I am a student filmmaker and I am in the process of filming a short dramatic piece about heroin addiction.
Plot: A young girl is abused by her father, runs away…ends up on the streets and addicted to heroin. She is then in a recovery facility, but can’t take the withdrawls anymore so she leaves the facility and shoots up one last time. Which ends up being fatal.
Anyone have a good name I could attach to this piece?
