What Food/drink Should Pregnant Women Avoid?

July 03, 2009 By: admin Category: Food & Drink

My mom is 33 and pregnant to her 2nd child ( she’s pregnant 6-7 week.. and she’s bleeding since yesterday til now.. like everytime she walks .. can anyone explain this? ) and.. she’s craving for soda.. but she want to make sure that drinking soda is okay for the baby. Is there any type of food that she needs to avoid or any type of food that’ll help her from pulking?

If she is bleeding, she needs to call the doctor.
She shouldn’t have soda, but if she really wants one make it one a day (caffiene free being the best).
She shouldn’t eat unpasteurized cheese. If she wants deli meat it should be warmed first. No alcohol! Those are the only things I can think of unless she has diabetes in which case she should avoid anything with a lot of sugar in it (fruit juice, jam, cakes…etc).

If she is bleeding she needs to get checked out. she should avoid food with raw egg in like mayo and mousse and shell fish.

Ginger tea will help with the nausea. I personally would eliminate soda as it has no nutritional value. But one or two cans a day should be fine until she sees doctor.

There really aren’t any foods that are off limits. It’s all about moderation, pregnant or not. I’m certainly not the picture of health, but at 38 weeks I’ve gained only 7 pounds. If sickness is a problem like it was for me in the beginning, she shoudl avoid dairy products as they can upset the stomach more. Bland foods are best for nauseus women. Fruit, Veggies, salty foods (my doc said they help settle the stomach) are all good. I say if she’s craving soda she shouldn’t deny herself, but caffeine free is probably better. I always crave soda. As for the bleeding she should call the doc immediately, it could be nothing or it could be that she needs to have an RH blood test which is also no big deal. But definitely call the doc.

SODA AND ANYTHING WITH LOTS OF SALT .. SALT MAKES YOU RETAIN WATER …
SHE SHOULD GO AND TALK TO HER DR ABOUT THE BLEEDING … NOW !!!
AND SHE SHOULD REST AND PUT HER FEET ON SOMETHING LIKE PILLOWS ANYTHING THAT WILL PUT HER FEET HIGHER THEN HER HART .

It’s important to know which foods are safe to eat and which you need to avoid while pregnant. Eat a safe pregnancy diet, and learn about safe food storage and handling by following these tips from the Clemson University Agricultural Extension.
There is a list of things at the above site.

For morning sickness they say to try crackers and ginger ale or dry toast. Have her eat a few crackers and lightly sip on ginger ale or water before rising out of bed.
For drinks all I know is not to have energy drinks. You can have soda and coffee but not a huge amount. I usually limit myself to no more than one cup of coffee per day and no more than 2 sodas. The rest of the time is milk, juice or water.
For food I know that you have to limit yourself on albacore tuna….I can’t remember if it’s a can per month or a can per week. Also if she wants hot dogs and such they need to be cooked or steamed…they say lunch meats and deli meats can gather bacteria faster and such and to be safe to cook or steam first. I think if she likes sushi to make sure it’s not raw. Far as I know I believe that is it.

Bleeding could be implantation, but get it checked. Try soda crackers and gingerale for relief of nausea.
